16. "If I could hear Christ praying for me, I would not fear a million enemies" (Robert Murray McCheyne). How much reassurance do we need? Can anything be more comforting than the knowledge that Jesus sits at the right hand of the Father praying for us.
17. "Hurry is the death of prayer" (Samuel Chadwick). We cannot have our eyes on God and the clock at the same time.
18. Wesley said in one of his hymns, "I am weak, but confident in self-despair." This is hard to understand without concentration. He's not saying he is confident despite being weak. He is saying he is confident because he feels weak. Ponder that for a while. It's a game changer.
19. "Always rejoice in the Lord, but with a holy trembling" (Matthew Henry). Our generation could use a good dose of reverent respect for the Holy One of Israel.
